PINEAPPLE CORER
A client of mine, who specializes in elegant kitchenware products, saw a need to develop a specific tool to spiral cut and core a pineapple simultaneously. These already exist on the market, but they wanted a beautiful piece that fit their brand and existing utensil collection. My task was to create a few design sketches, followed models and prototypes.
Concept Sketches
These 5 concept sketches were the ones I felt matched the client’s aesthetic the most. There are definitely a few designs that I felt were more on the ‘wild’ side but that is the fun of offering different forms- sometimes the client picks the most unexpected. In this case, we decided to move forward with the 3rd design.

Final Product
I made a quick basic clay model prior to designing the CAD of the chosen concept to understand the geometry of areas where different features of the handle would intersect. This model helped me visualize how I would create the curves that form between the handle and the neck of the stainless steel shaft of the tool.
With some feedback from the client and my own findings, some tweaks had to be made to the design to be more comfortable to use.
Once these changes were made, the design was complete and a drawing package was made to send to the manufacturer.
